Louisiana Public Broadcasting Honour For James
25 March 2010
Guitarist James Burton, whose licks have graced recordings and tours by artists ranging from Elvis Presley to John Denver, will be recognized at the Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) Louisiana Legends Awards May 6 in Baton Rouge.
Each year Friends of LPB honors outstanding Louisiana citizens who have distinguished themselves in a variety of disciplines including writing, art, entertainment, politics, public service and athletics.
Burton, a Minden native who grew up in Shreveport before leaping into the greater world of popular music, joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and over the last decade has added the title philanthropist to his list of achievements through the annual James Burton Rock and Roll International Guitar Festival. Through that he raises money to purchase guitars and put music back in classrooms. Hes donated hundreds to students throughout Caddo and Bossier parishes.
The Louisiana Legends Awards gala serves as a fundraiser for Friends of LPB with proceeds going to support the programming and educational services provided by LPB. There will be a silent auction featuring items donated by the 2010 honorees themselves and by Louisiana businesses.
Burton is one of five people who will receive this award. Other honorees are former Gov. Buddy Roemer, NBA basketball great Willis Reed, performing and fine arts advocate Marjorie Morrison and former State Superintendent of Education Louis Michot.
Gov. Bobby Jindal and First Lady Supriya Jindal will serve as the LPB honorary co-chairs for the ceremony, which will be at 8 p.m. May 6 at the Old State Capitol in downtown Baton Rouge. A champagne and dessert reception will follow.

Ronnie and James Feature on New Album
24 March 2010
Ronnie Tutt and James Burton will feature on Jim Lauderdale's new album 'Patchwork River' due for release on 11 May 2010.
Jim has written the album along with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter whom he first met when he produced his first album with bluegrass icon Dr. Ralph Stanley. He knew Robert along with Grateful Dead guitarist/singer Jerry Garcia were big followers of Dr. Ralph Stanley resulting in him approaching Robert about contributing lyrics to 'Patchwork River.'
Ronnie was Jerry Garcia's drummer in the Jerry Garcia Band many years ago.

More News on Myrna
22 March 2010
After a visit to the hospital to day to see Myrna we have been told she will not be getting discharged after all. Poor Myrna was looking forward to being discharged today and flying to Vienna tomorrow. Unfortunately her consultant at the hospital has stressed to Myrna after reviewing her today that she is not fit enough to travel. He wants her to remain in hospital for a couple of more days until he reviews her again with the possibility of a discharge on Thursday.
We will all have to hang fire and see what happens. At the end of the day the doctor knows best and has Myrna's recovery as a priority. Meanwhile as the case has been since she went in to hospital, she remains in our prayers and thoughts for her recovery to continue, slow as it is.
As mentioned below, should any one wish to send Myrna a message or cards then please send them to the address below and we will make sure Myrna receives them.

Update on Myrna Smith
18 March 2010
Good news to post on Myrna. I have just finished talking with Myrna on the phone at the hospital and she is sounding much better than she was sounding a week ago. She says that she is feeling much better in herself and being well looked after by the staff there. So a big thank you to the staff at the hospital from all of us here for doing that.
Myrna still does not know when she will be discharged. Anxious as she is to get out and home she is leaving that decision in the hands of the doctors.
Meanwhile lets all keep Myrna in our thoughts and prayers that she continues to make progress and will be out and about soon.
Sylvia Shemwell Has Died
16 March 2010
It is with sadness that we report the death of original Sweet Inspirations member, Sylvia Shemwell, who passed away on 13 February 2010. As well as working with Elvis, Sylvia toured with the TCB Band and the rest of the Elvis In Concert cast from 1997 to 2001, when she suffered a stroke which compromised her speech and ability to sing.
Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Sylvia started singing at the age of five. By the time she was fourteen, she'd won a contest for the Apollo Amateur Hour. Sylvia began singing with the 'Gospellaires' in 1959. The group consisted of Dionne Warwick, Sylvia's little sister DeeDee, and her brother John Utley. Following Elvis' death, Sylvia organized her own jazz trio and shared the stage with the Bee Gees for four months. She has worked with such greats as, Little Esther, Solomon Burke, Wilson Pickett, The Drifters, Gene Pitney, Connie Francis and Aretha Franklin. Sylvia will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
Additional news on John
14 March 2010
Doctors have found a blockage in Johns' stomach but due to the chemotherapy and radiation treatment starting tomorrow, they cannot operate and neither can they do a biopsy because they are not sure of what it is and it may rupture. After the next seven weeks of treatment they will then operate to remove the blockage.
Again this is a hard time for John, Terry and those closest to him so let's again keep this in mind and continue our prayers for him.
More News on John

An ambulance was called after he had fallen down the stairs at his home. He was in terrible pain and was taken to hospital in his home town of Springfield, Missouri, USA.
John is expected to stay in hospital for at least a week but meanwhile let John remain in our thoughts and prayers.

John Wilkinson is happily home from the surgery he had yesterday and is doing fine although very sore at the moment. John states there is nothing more to do but wait until March 15th when they will start his chemotherapy and radiation treatments which will be five days a week for eight weeks.
